Palm Springs Recommendations

Palm Springs is not just a golf vacation destination.  Here are other highlights of Palm Springs (that don’t involve golfing) :

  1. Great BBQ:  There’s a small casual restaurant a block west of the main strip in downtown Palm Springs.  It’s called Cowboy Way BBQ, which is located on 317 N Indian Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262.  Their Baby Back Rib was very tender. The meat just fell off the bones.  I highly recommend getting half rack of the Baby Back Rib!  You also get a choice of side dish (coleslaw, corn bread, mac n cheese).  I voted for mac n cheese.
  2. Best pizza ever!:  Bill’s Pizza is in Downtown Palm Springs.  It’s on the corner of La Plaza & South Indian Canyon Dr; right across from Hotel Zoso.  Bill’s pizzas are made with sourdough crust!  Pretty unique, right?  PS. their pizzas are not greasy.  Click here to see their menu.
  3. Pool parties:  Last time I went to Palm Springs, I stayed at the ACE hotel.  Although it’s not located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, you can borrow the hotel’s bike to ride to downtown.  The hotel also hosts pool parties that are open to the public.  However, the pools get very crowded (and fun) so the public doesn’t always have access to the pool.  The sure way to have a ticket to the hot but coolest party in town, is to actually be a guest there.  ACE hotel has 2 pools, both have DJs with great eclectic selection of oldies & lounge-house music.  Nothing is more relaxing that baking in the heat by the pool with a view of the grandiose desert mountain (plus a can of cold Modelo). Go to Travelocity to find the best (cheapest) rate for ACE hotel (you’ll save 10 dollars.  Oh, If you book the hotel online, be aware that the charge made will not include the resort fee, which is $20.  The receptionist at ACE will explain it all to you.  I’m just telling you now, so you won’t be surprised).View from the pool
  4. Easy scenic trail by downtown: The Carl Lykken Trail is located just south of Downtown Palm Springs.  It’s a relatively easy hike.  Do wear hiking shoes.  The hike takes you up along the ridge of the mountain, which offers a very rewarding view of Palm Spring & Cochella Valley.  Trail by downtown Palm Springs
